Sporting CP Update: 3/30

SCP1

There were no league games this week for Sporting CP or their “B” team due to international call ups. In lieu of league action, we’ll provide an update on how some of Sporting’s call-ups fared for their respective counties.

For Portugal, several players were called up for the game against Serbia (euro2016 qualifying) on Sunday and against Cape Verde (friendly) on Tuesday. Goalkeeper Rui Patricio and winger Nani both started against Serbia in Portugal’s 2-1 win on Sunday.

The victory was important because it puts Portugal on top of the qualifying group by two points over Denmark with all teams at four games played. Center back William Carvalho also saw action as a late game sub.

Forward Islam Slimani saw action for Algeria against Oman on Monday as he provided two assists in a 4-1 win.

Midfielder Andre Carrillo was called up by Peru for their friendly versus Venezuela tomorrow night.

Midfielder Adrien da Silva and center back Paulo Oliveira were both called up for Portugal for the friendly vs Cape Verde, along with midfielder Joao Mario and defender Cedric Soares. Those who didn’t play against Serbia will most likely see action against Cape Verde.
