ASL: Ironbound’s Ban Delays W. Mass Pro Home Opener
- Updated: April 3, 2015
Western Mass Pro Soccer will have to wait an additional week to open the home portion of its spring schedule after Ironbound FC was suspended for the spring.
The New Jersey-based outfit was handed the ban for violation of league rules on Thursday, though the ASL did not specify which rule had been broken. All scheduled matches for the spring season that involved Ironbound have been cancelled, thus cutting the 10-game schedule to nine.
Western Mass was originally scheduled to host Ironbound on Apr. 25 for its first match of 2015 at Lusitano Stadium. The Lusitanos home opener will instead take place on May 2 against Mass United FC at 7:30pm.
“The ASL contacted us and said our home opener versus Ironbound Soul on Apr. 25, along with the away game on May 23 are both cancelled by the league,” Western Mass Pro Soccer Director of Soccer Operations Steve Scott in a club release on Thursday. “All we know is that the Ironbound Soul will not be competing in the ASL 2014-2015 spring season due to violation of league rules, and that both games are immediately cancelled.”
Western Mass enters the spring season as the only undefeated club in ASL with a 6-0-4 (22 points) record.
