MLS All-Stars to Face Tottenham

Spurs-2

This year’s MLS All-Stars will face Tottenham Hotspur at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Co., the league announced on Wednesday.

The All-Stars will face the EPL side on Jul. 29 before a national audience. The 2015 edition of the summertime showcase will be the 12th time that the league’s best players will face an international opponent.

“The AT&T MLS All-Star Game continues to be one of the most entertaining and widely anticipated traditions for our League and for our sport in North America,” said MLS President and Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott said in a league release. “We are excited to welcome another world-class opponent in Tottenham and look forward to a competitive match and a tremendous week of events.”

Tottenham is the sixth different EPL side to face a MLS all-star side. Manchester United (2010 and 2011), Chelsea (2006 and 2012), Everton (2009), West Ham United (2008) and Fulham (2005) have all made their way to North America to partake in the All-Star game.

Former Revolution midfielder Clint Dempsey played for Tottenham during the 2012-13 EPL season. DeAndre Yedlin, who once played with Dempsey in Seattle, was signed by Tottenham last year.

The 2015 exhibition will also mark the second time that Dick’s Sporting Goods Park will serve as host. The Colorado Rapids’ home grounds was the site of the 2007 All-Star Game.

“We know that the Colorado Rapids, one of our inaugural clubs, will be great hosts,” Abbott said, “and that Dick’s Sporting Goods Park will impress both the fans in the stadium and television viewers throughout the World.”
