Revs Training Report

training-1

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Darrius Barnes was the only player missing from training on Wednesday as the Revolution prepared for Saturday’s match against Real Salt Lake.

Barnes missed Sunday’s 2-1 win over the Union due to a left knee sprain. His status for Saturday’s match is uncertain, and London Woodberry is expected to get another start at right back against Salt Lake.

Here are some other notes from Wednesday’s training, which was held on the lower practice field:

*Chris Tierney (left ankle sprain), Jose Goncalves (left calf strain) and Daigo Kobayashi (right hamstring strain) all appeared unhindered during passing and possession drills.

*Revolution Academy product Justin Rennicks participated in training as Academy director Bryan Scales and general manger Michael Burns watched along the sidelines.

*Jay Heaps, London Woodberry, Jermaine Jones, Teal Bunbury and Charlie Davies all spoke to the media prior to training.

*Jones, whose contract runs through 2015, briefly spoke about his future with the media: “Me and my family – we talked already after the World Cup to make that switch and come back, and now it’s a time that I don’t look only for the next year, I look for a longer period. Yeah, I can see me (ending my career) in the States… I try to talk now with the league to maybe get a longer contract (because) I can’t switch my kids and my family for one year – it’s not possible to take them out of school.”

*Heaps said that the thing that jumps out at him about Real Salt Lake is its veteran core: “It reminds me of teams I’ve been on where you’ve got the same group of guys, and they’ve added pieces, but you’ve got the Kyle Beckermans, you’ve got the Nick Rimandos, you’ve got the (Alvaro) Saborios, the (Javier) Morales’ – those guys have played together a long time and there’s no question in my mind that they’re as solid as they get because that group has been together for a long period of time.”
