Training Report: Nguyen Absent

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Lee Nguyen was absent from training on Wednesday as the Revolution prepared for Saturday’s conference final rematch against the Red Bulls.
Nguyen, who went 80 minutes before he was subbed for Steve Neumann in last weekend’s 4-0 win over Salt Lake, was not available to the media prior to training. It is unclear whether the midfielder is injured, or simply had the day off.
Here are some other notes from Wednesday’s training, which was conducted on the lower grass practice field at Gillette Stadium:
*Jermaine Jones, who threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park on Tuesday, spoke to media about his role as an ambassador for the club in a sports-obsessed Boston market: “Yeah, of course, that’s why the club brought me here after the World Cup. What I’ve always said is, there’s something here you can build, and you can see last season what we built, every game, people came to the stadium, and it was amazing. I try to help the club to get people in the stadium, and to try to get people to understand the whole game, and what we do.”
*In addition to Jones, Jay Heaps, Charlie Davies, Kelyn Rowe and Andrew Farrell met with the media prior to training.
*Aside from the absences of Nguyen and injured defender Darrius Barnes, Heaps had a full squad at his disposal for training.
*At the start of training, Heaps was seen chatting with a huddle of players comprised of Charlie Davies, Jermaine Jones, Andy Dorman, Jose Goncalves and Chris Tierney. Heaps spoke with the players for about five minutes before they joined the rest of their teammates.
*Davies spoke briefly about the upcoming conference final rematch: “We have a ton of respect for Red Bull New York. We had a heated rivalry last year and they got a new coach (Jesse Marsch) who’s done a terrific job with them this year, and they’re unbeaten. It sets up for a good showdown here.”
