MLS Announces New Roster Rules

The weighted lottery system is no more, while the list of players subject to the allocation process was revealed following the announcement of the 2015 MLS Roster Rules and Regulations on Friday.
The changes come in the wake of the new collective bargaining agreement, which was agreed to in principle hours before the start of the regular season.
Among the other changes:
– The maximum number of discovery player claims a club can make has been cut from 12 to seven.
– The maximum cap hit on a Designated Player over the age of 23 has been increased to $436,250, unless the player joins his club after the opening of the Secondary Transfer Window, in which case his budget charge will be $218,125.
– The primary transfer window expires on May 12, while the secondary window will run from Jul. 8 through Aug. 6
Last year, the Revolution signed striker Tony Taylor through the weighted lottery, while the club acquired Benny Feilhaber and Juan Toja through the allocation process. The Revolution are currently 14th in the allocation order.
