Burns Confirms Packwood to Train w/ Revs

There’ll be a new face at the Revolution training grounds next week.
Concord, Mass. native Will Packwood, who spent the past eight years in the Birmingham City system, will join the Revolution for training next week after the Championship side terminated his contract on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old defender, who saw limited action with Birmingham City over the years, asked the club to terminate his contract ahead of the May 12 MLS transfer window. The club granted that request, and in the process, confirmed via a release on Wednesday that Packwood was eyeing a move to MLS, with New England as his destination.
On Wednesday, ESPNFC.com reported that Packwood would, indeed, join the Revolution for training next week. The Revolution confirmed that report later in the day via Twitter.
Per #NERevs GM Michael Burns, American defender Will Packwood is scheduled to begin training with the Revs next week.

Packwood was not included in the allocation ranking list issued on May 1, indicating that an MLS club holds his discovery rights. In the ESPNFC.com report, Packwood acknowledged that he did not know which MLS club held those rights.
Packwood joined the Birmingham City Academy as a 14-year-old in 2007. Over the last few seasons, he’s had loan spells at League Two clubs Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham Town and League One club Colchester United.
The Revolution recently lost the services of versatile defender Darrius Barnes, who suffered left knee injury last month that is expected to sideline him through September.
