USL: Rudy Starts, Helps Rhinos Stay Unbeaten
- Updated: May 17, 2015
Revolution loanee Tyler Rudy was back in the lineup for the Rochester Rhinos, who extended their season-opening unbeaten streak to nine after securing a 1-1 draw to the Wilmington Hammerheads on Saturday at Legion Stadium in Wilmington, N.C.
Rudy, who earned his third start of the season on Saturday, went 84 minutes at the defensive midfielder’s spot before exiting for Providence College product Marcos Ugarte. To date, Rudy’s played in eight games, and accumulated a total of 340 minutes for the Rhinos.
Fellow Revolution loanee Timi Mulgrew did not make the gameday 18 as he recovers from a high ankle sprain he suffered two weeks ago.
Steevan dos Santos appeared to give the Rhinos the game-winner right before full time when he converted a Kenardo Forbes pass to put his squad up in the 90th minute. But Rochester’s lead didn’t last long as Ashani Fairclough headed a Tom Parratt cross into the back of the net to level it in stoppage time.
The draw puts the Rhinos’ record at 6-0-3 (21 points). Rochester remains the only unbeaten team in USL.
Rochester will be back on the pitch on Wednesday for a second round U.S. Open Cup matchup against Greater Binghamton FC Thunder at Sahlen’s Stadium. They’ll return to league action on Saturday when they head north to BMO Field to face Toronto FC.
