A brief homecoming of sorts awaits Revolution backup keeper Brad Knighton.

Knighton, who grew up in Richmond, Va., was loaned to the Richmond Kickers ahead of their USL game on Wednesday against the Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C.

The 30-year-old keeper, whose lone appearance this season came in a 4-2 loss at Sporting Kansas City on May 20, is set join the Kickers on Wednesday. He will return to Foxborough on Thursday in advance of the Revolution’s game against the Chicago Fire on Saturday.

Last year, Knighton had about two dozen friends and family on hand at City Stadium for the Revolution’s fourth-round U.S. Open Cup match against the Kickers. He started between the sticks to help the Revolution secure a 3-2 win.

Knighton is the second Revolution goalkeeper to join the Kickers this season, joining Trevor Spangenberg, who had a 1-0-1 record with 12 saves and two goals allowed in games against FC Montreal and Charleston earlier this season.
