Revolution keeper Brad Knighton received plenty of work during his brief loan spell to the Richmond Kickers as he collected six saves to help steer them to a 1-1 draw to the Charleston Battery on Wednesday at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C.

Although Ricky Garbanzo beat Knighton in the 28th minute to give the Battery the early lead, Samuel Asante leveled it in the 44th minute to ensure that Knighton’s efforts didn’t go for naught.

Knighton, who was loaned to the Kickers on Wednesday, was pressed into duty after Richmond became thin at goalkeeper ahead of their mid-week match in Charleston. He will rejoin the Revolution on Thursday.

Knighton is the second Revolution keeper to make a spot start for the Kickers this year. Third-string keeper Trevor Spangenberg made two appearances for the Kickers after one of their starters – Travis Worra – was called up by the club’s MLS affiliate, D.C. United.
