Ex-Rev Ryan Guy Helps Guam Clinch Historic Win
- Updated: June 11, 2015
Former Revolution midfielder Ryan Guy will forever be a part of Guam National Team history after he helped the program clinch its first-ever World Cup Qualifying win in Thursday’s 1-0 victory over Turkmenistan.
Guy, who earned his first cap with Guam in 2012, aided his squad’s cause in the 14th minute when he launched a long throw-in from the right touchline toward the box, where Turkmensitan defender Annaorazov Serdar attempted to clear it. But Serdar’s header fell into the back of his own net to give Guam the only goal they needed.
LA Galaxy defender AJ De La Garza was also in the XI for the Matao. Guam is currently 174th on the latest FIFA rankings.

Thursday’s match, which was held at the GFA National Training Center in Tamuning, Guam, also marked the first time the program hosted a World Cup qualifier. According to reports, about 3,500 were on hand to witness the historic win.
Guam’s last World Cup campaign came in 2000, a year in which they suffered lopsided defeats to Tajikistan (16-0) and Iran (19-0).
Guam will return to action on Jun. 16 against India at the GFA National Training Center.
