ASL: Roswess Brace Keys Western Mass Win
- Updated: June 14, 2015
Chris Roswess scored on each side of halftime to send Western Mass Pro Soccer to a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Fury on Saturday at Lusitano Stadium.
The Western Mass forward struck first in the 35th minute to allow the Lusitanos to march into the break with the advantage. He padded that lead when he found another goal in the 82nd minute, allowing his team to secure the victory. Jose Silva collected four saves to collect the clean sheet.
With the win, Western Mass improves its record to 9-1-6 (33 points), holding a five point cushion at the top of the ASL standings. The loss sent the Fury’s record to 6-8-3 (21 points).
Roswess was a threat all night, collecting a team-high four shots on Saturday. And he parlayed his potent form into paydirt in the 35th minute when he sliced through the Fury defense and beat goalkeeper Chase Clement on a breakaway to lift the Lusitanos going into halftime.
On the other side of the pitch, Fury forward Max Garcia was nearly as dangerous, as he too fired four shots. But Silva stood his ground, and denied Garcia time after time.
While Garcia was trying to figure out a way to find the back of the net, Roswess had no such problem with time winding down. Intent on adding to his total, he corralled a Matt Mitchell pass and sent it through in the 82nd minute.
The Lusitanos will close out the regular season on Saturday when they face Mass United FC at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Mass. Kickoff is set for 7:15pm.
