The New England Mutiny’s postseason plans took an unexpected turn on Friday after the league changed the opponent and location of their East region semifinal match.

After the Seacoast United Phantoms advised the WPSL that they were unable to field a full team for Saturday’s semifinal against the Mutiny, which was supposed to take place in Medford, Mass., the league announced that the East Longmeadow, Mass.  selection would face Yankee Lady FC in Trumbull, Ct. instead.

Saturday’s rescheduled match will take place at 2:00pm at Saint Joseph’s High School.

Originally, Yankee Lady FC was set to face the Boston Breakers Reserves in the opposite East region semifinal. The Breakers Reserves will now face the Hersey Soccer Club for their semifinal match at Hormel Stadium in Medford, Mass.

The Phantoms are only the latest WPSL side to decline the opportunity to play in the postseason.  Tampa Bay Hellenic and ASA Charge, the Sunshine & South-Atlantic division champions, respectively, chose not to compete in the playoffs after clinching spots in the postseason last week.
