Stephanie McCaffrey’s second half equalizer allowed the Breakers to grab a road point in Saturday’s 1-1 draw to the first-place Chicago Red Stars at the Village of Lisle Benedictine University Sports Complex, in Lisle, Ill.

McCaffrey scored in the 62nd minute to level a match that the Red Stars took control of on a 54th minute Lori Chalupny goal.

Saturday’s match also witnessed the return of Breakers starting goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, who returned from her stint with the Women’s World Cup champion U.S. Women’s National Team. Naeher made six saves in her first league game since late-May.

The draw allowed the Breakers to snap three-game losing streak while the Red Stars were unable to get maximum points after winning their previous two.

Following a scoreless first half, the Red Stars surged ahead when former Breakers midfielder Taryn Hemmings sent a square ball centrally for Chalupny, who one-timed it into the back of the Breakers’ net in the 54th minute.

The Breakers didn’t wait long to file a response after McCaffrey’s singular effort allowed her to cut through the Red Stars’ defense and fire a shot past Karina LeBlanc in the 62nd minute.

Recently-reacquired striker Kyah Simon went the full 90 in her first game for the Breakers since 2013.

The Breakers will face the Red Stars again on Wednesday at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium. Kick off is set for 7:00pm.
