PDL: Ex-Pioneers’ FWD Daniels Earns Accolades In Iceland
- Updated: September 22, 2015
Former Western Mass Pioneers striker Will Daniels received the Top Scorer and Top Player team awards following a strong debut season with Icelandic second division side KF Aegir.
Daniels scored 12 goals in 17 games for Aegir during the 2015 season, which wrapped up over the weekend. With Daniels’ help, the Icelandic side clawed out of the drop zone to finish ninth on the table with 24 points (7-12-3).
“What an experience it’s been,” Daniels wrote on his Facebook page. “So grateful for this opportunity, such a blessing to be able to play futbol in Europe, especially a beautiful country like Iceland.
“Thank you to my teammates and coaches for believing in me through the injuries, and not giving up on me. I will never forget my time here and will forever cherish this adventure and the memories that came with it. Bittersweet moment for me, sad to leave the great friends I’ve made, but excited to see my family! America, see you soon.”
The 25-year-old Quinnipiac product, who signed with Aegir in February, was beset by a knee injury earlier in the season before going on a midseason tear. He collected a hat trick against Njardvik on Jul. 9, and posted two-goal games against Huginn (Jul. 17) and Sindri (Aug. 8).
Prior to playing in Iceland, Daniels netted five goals and added two assists for the Pioneers during the 2014 PDL season. He also scored seven goals in 10 games for Western Mass Pro Soccer during the 2014 ASL fall season.
