Revs Training Report

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – On Wednesday, the Revolution conducted their final training session in Norfolk County on the Gillette Stadium pitch in preparation of Sunday’s season opener at Houston against the Dynamo.
The Revolution will depart for Houston Thursday morning, and will train close to BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday and Saturday. Typically, the club travels a day or two in advance of a road contest, but coach Jay Heaps touched upon the reason for the tweak in the itinerary.
“We’re going out a little bit earlier to Houston to really adapt and almost take it as a little bit longer of a trip,” Heaps told NESoccerToday.com on Wednesday.
Heaps has good reason to do whatever he can to get his squad acclimated to the Lone Star state. Two years ago, the Dynamo handed the Revolution their worst season-opening loss in club history, a 4-0 beatdown that featured trio of Houston goals inside of the first 23 minutes.
Training notes:
*While talks persists about the club signing veteran trialist Je-Vaughn Watson, the former FC Dallas man was conspicuously absent from Wednesday’s training session.
*On the flip side, rookie trialists Matt Turner, Femi Hollinger-Janzen, and Michael Gamble were all present for training on Wednesday. Gamble’s former Wake Forest teammate, Jack Harrison, hinted on Instagram over the weekend that Gamble had already signed a contract.
*The Revolution officially have 21 players under contract. Since Tuesday was the roster compliance deadline, the club is expected to make an announcement on any new signings in the very near future.
*The club played a set of short-sided games to close out Wednesday’s training, which was conducted in blustery conditions, prompting a number of players to don winter hats and jackets for the session.
*Following training, Heaps, center back Andrew Farrell, and midfielder Lee Nguyen spoke to the media.
*Farrell was particularly honest in his assessment of Sunday’s opponent, whom the Revolution faced last Wednesday for their penultimate preseason match. “I didn’t realize how many attackers they had,” Farrell told NESoccerToday.com. “In the first half, we were playing against some really good attackers (in Boniek Garcia and Cristian Maidana), and in the second half, it was Will Bruin out there with Erick Torres and Giles Barnes. It’ll be interesting to see who’ll play up top because they have so much talent there.”
