Diego Fagundez became the first Revolution player to earn weekly honors in 2016 after he was named to the MLSSoccer.com Team of the Week for week 1 of the season on Monday.

Fagundez scored a brilliant goal inside of three minutes, then assisted on the remaining two goals in the Revolution’s 3-3 draw to the Dynamo on Sunday. Charlie Davies and Daigo Kobayashi were the beneficiaries of Fagundez’s service in the 52nd and 93rd minutes, respectively.

In addition to his scoring and assisting tally, the 21-year-old midfielder connected on 82.8 percent of his passes, and was the top-rated player in Sunday’s matchup according to whoscored.com.

Despite the impressive stats, Revolution coach Jay Heaps told the media after the match that he would’ve liked to have seen more from his young playmaker.

“Overall, I thought Diego had a quiet night on the pitch, but really had a great stat line, one goal and two assists,” Heaps said. “But we want more from him. And as he gets into the season, we’re going to see more of him.”

Teammate Je-Vaughn Watson joined Fagundez on the weekly list as an honorable mention for his work at the right back spot for the Revolution on Sunday. Watson, who made his Revolution debut during the match, was the second-highest rated Revolution player on the whoscored.com player rankings for the Revolution-Dynamo tilt.

Meanwhile, former Western Mass Pioneers midfielder Tommy McNamara also earned a spot on the Team of the Week following a performance in which he, too, orchestrated a sensational strike as he helped New York City FC outgun the Chicago Fire 4-3 on Sunday.
