- Updated: April 6, 2016
U.S. Open Cup newcomer Southie FC will face PDL side Seacoast United Phantoms in the first round of the tournament after U.S. Soccer announced the first and second round pairings on Wednesday.
The Boston-based side will meet the PDL Northeast Division runners-up in Revere, Mass. at Della Russo Field on May 11 at 8:00pm. The winner will advance to the second round where they’ll face USL side Rochester Rhinos in Rochester, N.Y. on May 18.
The May 11 match will be the first Cup clash for Southie FC, who qualified for the tournament last year via the Open Division.
Last year, Seacoast beat GPS Massachusetts in its first round clash before falling to the Tulsa Roughnecks in Tulsa, Okla. during the second round.
PDL Northeast Division champion GPS Portland Phoenix will host NPSL side APC Cleveland in its first round match on May 11 at Deering High School in Portland, Maine. Kickoff is set for 8:00pm. The winner will meet the USL’s Saint Louis FC in the second round on May 18 in Fenton, Mo.
GPS Portland last qualified for the Open Cup in 2014, but did not advance beyond the first round.
