Midfielder Gershon Koffie is the latest representative from the Revolution to earn a spot on the MLSSoccer.com Team of Week following a strong performance against Toronto FC on Saturday.

Koffie, who missed the previous week’s match vs. New York due to red card suspension, connected on 92 percent of his passes and collected six interceptions, both of which were team highs.

Following the match, Revolution coach Jay Heaps praised Koffie’s performance.

“Gershon had an excellent night,” Heaps said. “I think one time at the end of the night when he got picked but other than that he had a near perfect night with the ball and defensively and so especially when he took an early card. He had to play really smart because you know that referees are going to give other yellows. I talked to him at halftime about being smart and that’s what he was all game.”

Koffie was tasked with tracking Toronto FC goalscorer Sebastian Giovinco, who scored only after the Revolution midfielder was taken out on a crushing tackle from Justin Morrow moments before the Giovinco’s goal.

“He’s their danger man,” Koffie said of Giovinco after the match. “If you can keep that danger man out of the game, you can win the game, which coach asked us to do, I thought we did that.”
