- Updated: May 1, 2016
Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen was the lone member of the local outfit to make U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s 40-man preliminary roster for the Copa America tournament, which was announced on Sunday.
Nguyen, who suited up for two games for the U.S. earlier this year, is one of 12 midfielders to make the preliminary roster, which also includes former Revolution designated player Jermaine Jones.
The 29-year-old midfielder has one goal and two assists in nine games for the Revolution this season. He recently signed a contract extension with the club.
Attleboro, Mass. native and Stoke City defender Geoff Cameron was also named to the preliminary roster, as did Boston College alum and FC Nantes midfielder Alejandro Bedoya.
The U.S. will begin training camp May 16 in Miami and play three preparation matches in advance of their opener against Colombia on June 3 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Tournament rules require the final 23-player roster to be turned in no later than May 20 to the Local Organizing Committee. All the players on the final list must come from the preliminary roster.
