It’s official: Lekic joins Revs

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – After weeks of speculation throughout the local and foreign press, the New England Revolution today announced the signing of Danish forward Rajko Lekic.
“We’re very pleased to announce Rajko’s signing,” Revolution Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. “We have been public in our desire to bring in an attacking player to the club, and we believe we’ve added a significant component to our attack with this signing. Rajko has scored goals consistently for all his previous clubs, and we are optimistic he’ll do the same for us during his time in New England.”
Lekic, who is still awaiting his International Transfer Certificate, will occupy one of the team’s international roster spots. Terms of the 29-year-old forward’s contract and his transfer from Danish club Silkeborg IF were not disclosed.
The 6-foot, 1-inch tall striker has scored over 100 goals in his career and recently made an appearance for the Denmark national team. In addition to playing in Denmark, Lekic has played for clubs in Spain and Hungary.
Lekic will wear #10 for the Revs. Whether it be in the Revs current 4-3-2-1 formation or if the Revs opt to go with two strikers with their new signing, Lekic is expected to immediately compete for a starting spot.
The Revs originally tried to sign Lekic in the offseason, but when the move fell through the team managed to bring him in on trial at the end of March. After Lekic impressed, the Revs were able to agree to a transfer fee with Silkeborg IF and finally complete the transfer.
