NPSL: Boston City, Southie FC Set for Friendly
- Updated: March 9, 2017
A pair of clubs from the Hub are set to square off as Boston City FC and Southie FC will meet for a preseason friendly on Apr. 12 at Malden Catholic High School in Malden, Mass.
The match will be the first of three preseason matches scheduled for the Lions, who’ll also face Assumption College on Apr. 18 at Malden Catholic High School and Merrimack College on Apr. 22 at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass.
“We have a large group of players who will be competing for a place in the squad, and this an ideal chance to see them in action in a match setting,” said Boston City FC coach Palhinha in a club release. “Playing good local opposition will be the perfect preparation before we kick off in the NPSL.”
While all three matches may help prepare the Lions, who’ll compete in the U.S. Open Cup in May, for the upcoming NPSL season, there’s no doubt the most intriguing clash will be the first.
Southie FC has been no stranger to success as back-to-back USASA Massachusetts State Champions. Last year, they pulled off a first-round upset win over Seacoast United Phantoms in the U.S. Open Cup tournament.
Following its trio of friendlies, Boston City will kick off its second season in NPSL with an Apr. 29 clash against defending division champion New York Cosmos B.
