Boston City FC kicked off its preseason slate with a 2-0 victory over Bay State Soccer League’s Southie FC on Wednesday at Malden Catholic High School in Malden, Mass.
Jhonata Batista opened the scoring in the 25th minute on a header set up by former Revolution Youth Academy Player Michael Rincon. Not long after, it was Rincon’s turn to find the back of the net when he followed up his own rebound from close range to widen the margin in the 29th minute.
Southie’s best chance at a breakthrough came inside of eight minutes when Manny Andrade beat the Lions backline before goalkeeper Vitor Scariot snuffed out the opportunity.
Boston City coach Palhina used three different lineups with each group going 30 minutes as players worked back to fitness. Among those who saw action was 2016 NPSL leading scorer Isaac Addai, who played with the first unit.
