Christian Pulisic pounded a pair of shots between the posts to power the United States to a 2-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago in Thursday’s World Cup Qualifier at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Col.
The 18-year-old midfielder scored in the 52nd and 62nd minutes while Tim Howard thwarted a pair of dangerous opportunities authored by the guests to secure the victory.
Former Revolution midfielder Clint Dempsey tested the Trinidad & Tobago defense early with a strong effort that did not miss its mark by much in the 15th minute. Nine minutes later, John Brooks put goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams in a precarious position when he broke through the box before the shot-stopper snuffed out the opportunity.
With Wednesday’s win in the books, the U.S. will now face a crucial match against rival Mexico, who are currently atop the standings in the final round of Qualifying, on Sunday.
