Big Day in the Nutmeg State
- Updated: July 15, 2017
To say that Saturday is a big day for soccer in the state of Connecticut might be an understatement.
Less than three months after they each kicked off their debut season in NPSL, Elm City Express (New Haven) and Hartford City FC will vie for postseason glory in their respective divisions.
Elm City, which claimed the top seed in the Atlantic Blue Conference Division on a 29 point season (9-1-2), will host New Jersey’s TSF FC (23 points) in the division final at Yale University’s Reese Stadium in New Haven. Kickoff is 7:00pm.
The Express clinched a first-round bye by virtue of their first-place finish while TSF booked its spot after beating the Brooklyn Italians 1-0 in Wednesday’s semifinal.
During their regular season series, Elm City claimed 4-0 and 1-0 victories over TSF, the former coming in last weekend’s regular season finale in New Jersey.
About 100 miles to the northwest of New Haven, Hartford City (5-3-4, 19 points) will take on first-place Kingston Stockade FC (7-4-1, 22 points) in the Atlantic White Conference Division final at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, N.Y. Kickoff is 6:00pm.
Hartford City earned its spot in the final after beating Boston City 2-1 in Malden, Mass. on Wednesday.
The Colts collected four of a possible six points from Stockade during the regular season, grabbing a season-opening 3-1 win before earning a 2-2 draw in the rematch.
Should both representatives from the Nutmeg State emerge victorious, they’ll each book tickets to the Northeast Region Semifinals, which will take place on Jul. 22.
