Player Rankings: New England Revolution at Chivas USA
After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5 average, 10 perfection). This week Julian Cardillo and Brian O’Connell contributed ratings for the Revs 3-0 road loss to Chivas Saturday night.
Bobby Shuttleworth – Average rating: 4.5 (Brian 4, Julian 5):
Looked unsure, but could do little with the porous defending in front of him. A few heady saves kept it from being a 6-0 game (Brian)…Came up with some impressive stops behind an otherwise horrendous back line. Nothing he could have done about two of the goals (Julian).
Didier Domi – Average rating: 3.75 (Brian 3.5, Julian 4):
Definitely his worst night as a Rev. Poor job getting back and should not have taken a touch on the third chivas goal (Julian)…Worst game in a Revs uniform so far. Caught out of position too many times to count (Brian).
A.J. Soares – Average rating: 4.5 (Brian 4, Julian 5)
Only defender to show an iota of decisiveness. Despite that, his lackluster play was just a part of the problem (Brian)…One of the only players on the field to have any fight. Should have defended much better on both the first and second goals (Julian).
Franco Coria – Average rating: 4.25 (Brian 4, Julian 4.5)
Not very finessed from the Argentine. He was caught on the wrong end of the ball way too many times and did not communicate well with Soares (Julian)…Beaten on the LaBrocca goal, and never looked especially strong in the air (Brian).
Kevin Alston – Average rating: 3.5 (Brian 4, Julian 3)
An enigma wrapped inside riddle. The more I watch him, the more i think he’s really a midfielder posing as a defender. Propensity to attack rather than defend is troubling (Brian)…Continues to struggle. All over the place, bad distribution. Completely outclassed by Moreno on second goal and was second best on the Flores cross that set up the third goal (Julian).
Kenny Mansally – Average rating: 4 (Brian 5.5, Julian 2.5)
Not smart on the ball. Continues to take audacious shots from distance despite having people making runs (Julian)…Had a decent first half; surprised to see him bench for the second frame. Added what little life the attack had in first 45 (Brian).
Shalrie Joseph – Average rating: 4.25 (Brian 5.5, Julian 3)
Distribution good, but made some curious decisions inside the defending third (see: Moreno goal in the 57th) (Brian)…Worst game of his career. Should not have played a ball back to Domi on the third goal. Too direct, poor distribution, and no relationship with Feilhaber (Julian).
Benny Feilhaber – Average rating: 4.75 (Brian 5.5, Julian 4)
Needs to watch his temper a wee bit, but it’s good to see that he cares. Was double teamed and was not able to get some good ideas off. But it seemed like even he was forcing it all night (Julian)…Had good ideas and executed them fairly well, but his teammates’ failure to capitalize on them left him frustrated (Brian).
Zak Boggs – Average rating: 4.5 (Brian 4, Julian 5)
Created a couple of chances, all but forgotten in the final half hour (Brian)…Looked dangerous on occasion playing some dangerous balls into the box. But needs to watch his stamina, he continues to get tired late (Julian).
Zack Schilawski – Average rating : 4 (Brian 4, Julian 4)
SHOOT! Schilawski had some good looks last night but opted to take a touch or pass to someone else. He’s a forward and he’s the guy paid to put the ball in the back of the net (Julian)…Had a half-chance in the early going, but was largely ineffective (Brian).
Rajko Lekic – Average rating: 5 (Brian 5.5, Julian 4.5)
Good on the ball, but finishing was off target. Has to do better when chances come his way (Brian)…Just not enough out of the goal scorer. Caught offside too many times and not enough work holding the ball (Julian).
Sainey Nyassi (sub) – Average rating: 3.5 (Brian 3.5, Julian 3.5)
Looked rather confused out there. No speed, no surging runs. Instead, opted to shoot floaters and slow rollers (Julian)…Puzzling to see on the left again. Added nothing more than aggravation (Brian).
Chris Tierney (sub) – Average rating: 4 (Brian 4, Julian 4)
Inserted late to stop the bleeding, but the Chivas chances kept coming. Unsurprisingly failed to keep pace with the Chivas attack (Brian)…Probably should have been in from the beginning instead of Mansally. Brought a bit more finesse to the game, but it was too little too late. It would have been interesting to see what it would have been like with him as a starter (Julian).
