Two years after their embarrassing run in the 2015 Gold Cup, the United States booked its ticket to this year’s title match after beating Costa Rica 2-0 in Saturday’s semifinal at AT & T Stadium in Dallas.
Jozy Altidore scored the breakthrough in the 72nd minute while former Revolution midfielder Clint Dempsey capped the scoring in the 82nd minute. Dempsey’s goal was his 57th at the international level to equal the U.S. Men’s National Team all-time scoring record along with Landon Donovan.
Goalkeeper Tim Howard was called upon to make a handful of strong saves to clinch the clean sheet.
With the win, the U.S. will face the winner of Sunday’s Mexico-Jamaica semifinal in Wednesday’s final at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
