Bobby Wood came off the bench to score a late equalizer, helping the United States pocket a valuable road point in a 1-1 draw to Honduras in Tuesday’s World Cup Qualifier at Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Asula, Honduras.
Wood tallied in the 85th minute amid a scramble that followed a Kellyn Acosta free kick that was adroitly saved by Luis Lopez. But with the ball up for grabs in the area, Jordan Morris flicked it forward for Wood, who tapped it through.
Romell Quioto put the U.S. in a ditch early when he streaked into the area and eluded Omar Gonzalez before slotting it past Brad Guzan in the 27th minute.
Attleboro’s Geoff Cameron entered the match as a 62nd minute substitute, and nearly set up a 72nd minute break through when his long throw in found Clint Dempsey, who volleyed it just off frame.
With the draw, the U.S. was able to rebound from Friday’s lethargic home loss to Costa Rica at Red Bull Arena. The point also puts them in sole possession of third-place, one spot above Honduras.
The U.S. will return to action Oct. 6 when they host Panama at Orlando City Stadium.
