U.S. to Face Portugal on 11/14
- Updated: October 16, 2017
Less than a week after they fell short of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, the United States will play a friendly against third-ranked Portugal next month.
According to O Jogo, the Portuguese Football Federation has announced that A Seleccao will face the U.S. on Nov. 14, a match that will follow a friendly against Saudi Arabia on Nov. 10.
The Portugal-U.S. match will be played at Estádio do Algarve, and will kickoff at 1:45pm ET. The match will be broadcast live on the Univision Networks, with the English language broadcaster still to be finalized.
The clash falls on an international fixture date, which makes all players available for selection. U.S. Soccer will determine in the coming days who will coach the squad for this friendly.
Next month’s match will be first time the U.S. will visit Portugal since 1990.
It is unclear who’ll be coaching the Americans for next month’s friendly after Bruce Arena resigned last week. The prevailing sentiment is that current U.S. U-20 coach Tab Ramos will take over on an interim basis.
The last time the U.S. and Portugal met was in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup in a wild match that ended in a 2-2 draw.
Portugal clinched its spot at the 2018 World Cup last week.
