Joseph an All-Star
- Updated: July 18, 2011
New England Revolution captain Shalrie Joseph will be the team’s lone representative at the 2011 MLS All-Star game after New York Red Bulls and MLS All-Stars head coach Hans Backe named the Grenadian to the game-day squad. The selection marks the eighth-consecutive time Joseph has been named an MLS All-Star.
The MLS All-Stars take on English Premier League Champions Manchester United, an opponent the Revs fell 4-1 to on Wednesday, at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., on Wednesday, July 27th. Joseph was the only player selected from a team that has less than five victories so far this season. The struggling Revs are 3-9-7 and in last place in the Eastern Conference.
Joseph leads the Revs with five goals this season, while also adding an assist. The central midfielder has 33 goals and 31 assists in 228 career regular season games for New England.
The MLS All-Stars fell 5-2 to Manchester United in last year’s All-Star game, marking the first time the MLS All-Stars had lost to a foreign opponent. The full All-Star roster can be seen below:
