Breakers Crash Out of Playoffs

BOCA RATON, FL – Keelin Winters’ 31st minute goal wasn’t enough to lead the Breakers back to the WPS semifinals this season, as the Boston fell to magicJack 3-1 Wednesday night at FAU Soccer Stadium.

The rookie midfielder’s tally leveled it after Abby Wambach’s first goal gave the home club the early lead in the 6th minute. But magicJack pulled two more goals out of its hat, as Wambach reclaimed the lead in the 57th minute while Megan Rapinoe capped the scoring in the 61st minute.

Wambach’s first goal put the number three seed magicJack in the driver’s seat, after taking a cross from Sarah Huffman and burying it in the back of the net.

Winters responded moments after the half hour when she one-timed a Leslie Osborne header to equalize and give the Breakers momentum heading into the half.

But magicJack wasn’t phased. In the 57th minute Huffman tore into the Boston box but was brought down, earning the penalty. Wambach stepped up and delivered the dagger, putting her club ahead for good.

Minutes later, Rapinoe added an insurance goal when Christen Press played it into the box, where Rapinoe put it through to help deliver magicJack to the WPS Semifinals against the Philadelphia Independence on Saturday afternoon.
