FALL RIVER, Mass. – The Revolution Youth Academy remained perfect (4-0-0) on the weekend after their squads claimed 3-2 and 2-0 wins over the New York Cosmos Sunday at BMC Durfee High School during the first weekend of the 2011-12 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season.
The U-18s opened Sunday’s action with an aggressive attack against the Cosmos that featured goals from Dominik Machado (4′) and Chandler Burnham (9′) to give the Revs an immediate two goal cushion inside of 10 minutes.
The Cosmos pulled one back before the half, and equalized in the 70th minute from a pinpoint corner that curved into the net to level it at 2-2. But for the second straight day, Machado broke the tie with a late-gasp goal when he punched a loose rebound through to give the 18s a 3-2 win. For the weekend, Machado led the Revs with three goals.
In the second match of the day, the 16s put together their second straight solid performance of the weekend and there was little the Cosmos could do to prevent it. Mawolo Gissie scored his second goal of the weekend in the 24th minute while Casey Schehl added another in the 66th minute as the 16s claimed back-to-back clean sheets.
The Revs Academy returns to action in two weeks for the USSDA Winter Showcase in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., which runs from December 2-6. Their opponents for the Showcase will be Charlotte Soccer Academy (Dec. 3rd), Chicago Fire (Dec. 4th), and North Meck SC (Dec. 6th).
