Academy Action: Revs Bounce Back
- Updated: December 6, 2011
The Revolution Youth Academy rebounded from Sunday’s disappointing defeats with a pair of wins against North Meck SC to close out the Winter Showcase on Tuesday.
The U-18s earned a 3-0 win while the U-16s grabbed a 3-2 victory as the both squads returned to their goalscoring ways two days after they were shutout by the Chicago Fire on Sunday.
In the 18s game, the Revs took the advantage in the 27th minute when Nick Hoffman converted a C.J. Burnham cross. Ten minutes later, Ramiro Osorio earned a penalty, then buried it from the spot to give his team a two-goal lead going into the interval. Showcasing his affinity for the late-game goal, Dominik Machado capped it with an 89th minute goal to give the Revs a convincing victory.
Following the 18s game, the 16s stepped onto the pitch hungry to close out the Showcase on a positive note. In the 4th minute, Amadu Kunateh tallied to give the Revs an early lead. But Zhuvonte Wilson’s goals in the 17th and 33rd minutes put North Meck on top going into the second half. However, the Revs responded when Danny Apajee scored from close range to level it in the 51st minute and Gabe Gissie’s 77th minute goal proved to be the decider as the 16s earned their first win of the Showcase.
With the wins, the Academy finished the Showcase with a 3-3-0 overall record. After a three-month break for the winter, the Revs will return to action on March 10th at D.C. United.
