Mansally Earns Gambia Call-up
- Updated: February 17, 2012
New England Revolution midfielder Kenny Mansally is set to join the Gambian National Team for an African Cup of Nations qualifying home match against Algeria on February 29th. Fellow Revs midfielder Sainey Nyassi was also set to be a part of the squad, but will miss the game due to a hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old Mansally has made nine appearances for Gambia. He will join the team on February 22nd and miss the Revolution’s preseason trip to Arizona where they will participate in the FC Tucson Dessert Diamond Cup. Nyassi, who will stay with the Revs, has four appearances with two goals for Gambia.
Gambia’s match against Algeria is the first leg of a two match series in the first round of qualifying for the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa. The second leg, in Algeria, is set for June 30th, meaning Mansally and Nyassi could both miss the Revolution’s home match against the Seattle Sounders that same day, should the pair be again named to Gambia’s squad for that match.
Should Gambia advance, the second round of qualifying will be the same format with matches taking place on September 7-9 and October 12-14.
