Canada and Brazil Women Set For Foxboro Friendly

At Thursday night’s Supporters’ Summit, New England Revolution President Brian Bilello mentioned the team was working on a doubleheader for the Revs’ home opener on March 24th.
It now appears, according to multiple reports, that the Canadian Women’s National Team and the Brazilian Women’s National Team will face off on that same date at Gillette Stadium in a friendly match to prepare for the 2012 London Olympics, presumably as the second game in that doubleheader.
While a spokesperson for the New England Revolution confirmed to New England Soccer Today that the team was working on a doubleheader, the Revs are not ready to announce the participants yet and would not confirm or deny the report.
The Revs are currently scheduled to face the Portland Timbers at 4 PM on Saturday, March 24th. It is unclear whether the Brazil-Canada clash would fall before or after the game or even if the Revs match will stay at the currently scheduled time.
Brazil is currently fourth in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings, while Canada sits at seventh. Brazil is led by five-time FIFA World Player of the Year Marta, a forward who has scored 80 goals in 72 international games.
