U.S. Edges Norway 2-1, Japan Awaits

Abby Wambach and Sydney Leroux scored second half goals to lead the United States to a 2-1 victory over Norway during the second match day of the Algarve Cup tournament on Friday at Estádio Municipal in Lagos, Portugal.
After the a scoreless first half, the Americans came to life in the second frame when Wambach ripped a shot from 16-yards in the 53rd minute. Leroux added another in the 82nd minute while Norway claimed a last-gasp goal from Elise Thorsnes in stoppage time.
The U.S. remains atop the Group B standings with a 2-0-0 record and +6 goal differential. But, a rematch with Japan, who defeated the U.S. in last year’s World Cup Final, looms on Monday for the group stage finale. Kickoff is set for 9:10am ET at Estádio Algarve in Faro, Portugal.
