The Boston Breakers began play in the WPSL Elite in 2012. The club had played in the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA) from 2001 until its demise in 2003. The current version of the Breakers was founded 2008 and began play in Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) in 2009. Upon the demise of the WPS in 2012, the Breakers joined the WPSL Elite. The original breakers finished first in the WUSA in 2003. The Breakers have featured no shortage of U.S. Internationals and other international stars, including Kristine Lilly, Maren Meinert, Angela Hucles, Heather O’Reilly and Cat Whitehill. The Breakers currently play home games at Dillboy Stadium in Somerville.
