It appears that former Revolution striker Juan Agudelo is one step closer to re-joining the squad he starred for two years ago as ESPNFC.com is reporting that the 22-year-old is close to signing a four-year deal with New England.

According to the report, Agudelo is set to sign a new deal that will keep him in Foxborough through 2018. The value of the contract has not yet been disclosed, but he is eligible to ink a Young Designated Player Deal, which would limit any cap hit to $200,000.

News of Agudelo’s rumored move to New England was first reported on Monday by goal.com.

Agudelo scored seven goals and added an assist in 14 games for the Revolution in 2013, helping them reach the playoffs for the first time in four years. He was originally acquired by the club in a May 2013 deal that sent allocation money to Chivas USA.

During his time with the Revolution, the squad scored 2.14 goals per game in the 14 games he played, but averaged nearly a full goal less (1.25) in the 12 games he missed due to hamstring and knee injuries.

In August 2013, Agudelo signed a future contract with EPL side Stoke City, only to have his work permit application rejected. He was loaned out to Dutch side Utrect, but continued to seek a deal with an EPL side. He trained with Orlando City during the summer, despite the fact that the Revolution still owned his MLS rights, a development that did not sit well with the braintrust at the time.

Should Agudelo return to the Revolution, he would join a squad that featured fellow U.S. international Jermaine Jones and MVP finalist Lee Nguyen. Last month, the club reached its first MLS Cup final in seven years, but fell the LA Galaxy 2-1 in extra time.
