Young Revs Earn 3-3 Draw in SA tourney
- Updated: March 28, 2012
The Revolution U-17s bounced back from Monday’s shutout loss to earn a 3-3 draw against SAFA School of Excellence (South Africa) on Tuesday in the second game of the 2012 Future Champions Gauteng tournament in South Africa.
Gabe Gissie (4′), Guy Kabala (30′) and Amadu Kunateh (59′) scored for the Revolution while Aubrey Modiba (5′), Tshepo Mashigo (17′) and Kabelo Moshane (60′) penciled their names on the sheet. Gissie and Mobida were each ejected in the first 30 minutes to leave it a 10 v 10 affair for the last hour of the match.
New England wasted no time getting on the board when Christian Sady played a ball into the box for Gissie, who slotted it through only four minutes after the opening whistle. But the lead didn’t last as Mobida countered with a goal a minute later.
Shortly after Gissie was sent to the showers, SAFA SE went up when Mashigo delivered his squad the lead in the 17th minute.
But even shorthanded, the Revolution wasn’t about to throw in the towel. At the half hour mark, Guy Kabala played a free kick and buried it to make it 2-2 going into the half while Mobida earned a straight red shortly thereafter to even the scales on the pitch.
As the hour mark approached, Kunateh grabbed a Declan McCabe ball and, with the School of Excellence keeper well off his line, slid it into the empty net at the 59th minute.
But, once again, the New England lead failed to last as Moshane leveled it for good a minute later.
The Revolution return to the pitch on Wednesday against K-Stars (Zambia).
