- Updated: July 7, 2012
Aztec MA’s plans to join the WPSL Elite may have been delayed till 2013, but that didn’t stop the club from continuing their dominance in the Women’s Premier Soccer League Northeast Division. The Aztec organization, which was formerly comprised of the Boston Aztec Breakers Reserve and Aztec U23, two teams that combined to win the past three WPSL Northeast Division titles, has again claimed first in the Northeast Division, now as the rebranded Aztec MA, after a 4-0 win over the Seacoast United Phantoms.
With one game remaining, Aztec MA (7-1-1, 22 points) has clinched first place in the division and a playoff spot in the East Conference thanks to their dominating win over the second-place Phantoms (4-2-3, 15 points). Aztec MA, who are unbeaten in their last eight games and haven’t lost since the first game of the season, finishes off their regular season schedule on Sunday against the Seacoast United Mariners (1-4-1, 4 points) at North Reading High School at 3:30 p.m.
A win on Sunday would clinch the top seed in the East Conference playoffs. As the Breakers Reserve, the Aztec organization has won the East Conference the past two seasons and claimed the national WPSL title in 2010. Aztec MA currently has the second highest scoring offense in all of the WPSL (over 65 teams) with 31 goals in 9 games (3.44 goals per game).
The WPSL playoff schedule has yet to be announced.
