MPS, R.I. Reds Set for USOC Clash on 4/7
- Updated: March 30, 2013
Mass Premier Soccer, which claimed a dramatic penalty kick victory over East Providence Sports in December’s U.S. Open Cup state final, will play its next Cup match against Rhode Island Reds FC on Apr. 7.
The USASA Region 1 Quarterfinal will kick off at 2pm at the venerable Cranston (R.I.) Stadium, the Reds’ home park.
The Open Cup clash will be the first one for the Reds, who began play in NPSL last year. Mass Premier has advanced to the Region 1 Quarterfinals twice in the last three years.
In 2012, Mass Premier went 13-1-4 (43 points) in the Bay State Soccer League, good for second place. The Reds finished with a 4-4-4 (16 points) record, earning them a fourth place finish in the Northeast-Atlantic Conference of the NPSL.
