Mutiny Kick Off Campaign on 5/18

The New England Mutiny will kick off their 2013 campaign at East Longmeadow (Mass.) High School on May 18 when they host the New Hampshire Phantoms for a WPSL Northeast Conference clash.
After competing in the WPSL Elite League last season, the Mutiny return to their familiar WPSL surroundings in 2013. The Elite League was launched following the demise of WPS, and served as temporary forum for first-division women’s soccer.
“We are proud to have competed in the WPSL Elite last season and to be an integral part of keeping professional women’s soccer alive in the United States,” said New England team owner Joe Ferrara, Jr. in a statement. “By providing an avenue for the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars and Western NY Flash, we felt that it helped give them momentum for the rebirth of a professional league.”
The Mutiny will play 10-game regular season schedule against a quartet of New England-based clubs. Last year, the Mutiny finished with an impressive 6-5-3 record in WPSL Elite, despite their status as a “semi-professional” side.
Their biggest victory came in a 2-1 upset of the Boston Breakers, marking the first time a semi-pro side had gotten the better of a “professional” team inside of WPSL Elite.
