LUSA: Fall River Sports Clinch 2nd Straight Title

frs-1

Fall River Sports entered Saturday’s match against Safira FC in second place on the LUSA table. By the time it was over, though, they had claimed their second straight league title.

Dircilino DeBrito scored a pair of first half goals while Christopher Arruda added another late to help give Fall River a 3-1 win over Safira at Billy Gonsalves Field, and more importantly, the three points it needed to leapfrog Taunton Eagles at the top of the table.

DeBrito scored in the 14th and 28th minutes, while Arruda tallied in the 84th minute. Safira scored its goal in the 47th minute.

Fall River finished the 2013 season with a 8-2-1 (25 points) record, edging the Eagles, who went 8-3-0 (24 points).

Incidentally, Fall River will face the Eagles on Saturday in the second leg of first round LUSA Cup action at Shores Street Field in Taunton. The Eagles claimed a 4-1 win in the first leg at Billy Gonsalves Park on Jul. 13.
