USASA: Southie Among 4 Set for Cup Qualifiers

Southie FC will meet defending Cup champion Kendall Wanderers FC for USASA Werner Fricker U.S. Open Cup qualifying at 4:00pm on Saturday at Hormel Stadium in Medford, Mass.
Southie, which is also undertaking USASA National Amateur Cup qualifying, is hoping to reach the state final after it fell short last year. Kendall Wanderers are the defending state cup champion.
The other state semifinal will pit Safira Soccer against Boston Olympiakos on Sunday, with the venue and kickoff time to be announced.
This weekend’s winners will meet in the state final on Apr. 2.
In 1999, USASA established the Werner Fricker USASA Open Cup to recognize the champion among its own participants. The Cup continues through the efforts of Region I and Region II with the hope that the other regions will enter in the future.
