Commonwealth-based clubs Safira FC and Kendall Wanderers FC will meet in the USASA Werner Fricker U.S. Open Cup state final on Sunday after they won their semifinal matches over the weekend.

On Saturday, Kendall Wanderers grabbed goals from Braima Samati, Robbie Sabadoz and Paul Grandstrand en route to their 3-0 semifinal win over Southie FC at Hormel Stadium in Malden, Mass.

The following day, Safira overwhelmed Boston Olympiakos to the tune of a 6-0 victory at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School in Malden.

Wanderers are the defending USASA Werner Fricker Open Cup state champions, and advanced to the Region 1 semifinals in 2016.

The Region I Finals will be played in June at the Ukrainian American Sports Center in Horsham, Pennsylvania. The winner will represent Region I at the Cup Final hosted by one of the two finalists in July.

In 1999, USASA established the Werner Fricker USASA Open Cup to recognize the champion among its own participants. The Cup continues through the efforts of Region I and Region II with the hope that the other regions will enter in the future.
