Alencar “Junior” Ventura, who scored 19 goals in his 17 games over the last two seasons in PDL play, signed a deal to play for the Las Vegas Legends of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) on Friday.
Junior, a native of Ji-Parana, Brazil, joins the Legends right before their quarterfinal clash against the San Diego Sockers at 7pm on Saturday at LV Sports Park. The PASL regular season runs from November through February.
The 29-year-old striker collected 10 goals in 11 games for the now-defunct Worcester Hydra in 2012, earning league honors at the end of the season. In 2013, he tallied nine times in six games for the Western Mass Pioneers. He also helped Southeastern New England Super Liga side AC Blaugrana (R.I.) clinch the league cup.
Prior to Junior’s deal with the Legends, Pioneers head coach Federico Molinari expressed interested in bringing the goalscorer back for a second year.
“Junior was a very good addition to the team,” Molinari said in a team release in January. “We are currently speaking with Junior to entice him to be a part of the 2014 team.”
In recent years, Junior has also played for Bay State Soccer League sides Boston Olympiakos and Mass United FC. He recently competed with Massachusetts futsal power Safira FC.
