WPSL: Mutiny Unveil Schedule, New Logo

It’ll be a new season, and a new look for the New England Mutiny when they kick off their 2014 WPSL schedule on May 17 at East Longmeadow High School against the Maine Mariners.
The Mutiny, who announced their 2014 schedule on Thursday, also unveiled a new logo in the process. With a redesigned crest featuring a new primary color (black instead of purple), the Mutiny will embark on a 10-game WPSL schedule that will pit them 
against a slew of regional rivals.
“The 2014 season will be extremely challenging,” said Mutiny owner Joe Ferrara, Jr. in a team release on Thursday. “The division features a new addition with the Boston Breakers’ Professional Reserve team to go along with its collegiate academy squad. With old rival and former national champion Aztec; a New Hampshire side that always gives us fits and Maine having a year under its belt, it is no wonder that this is the WPSL ‘Group of Death.'”
The Mutiny will play three of their first four at home, but will then embark on a trying stretch that will put them on the road for four of their next five. They wrap up the regular season at home against Aztec MA on Jul. 12.
Among the players returning for another season with the Mutiny: U-20 star Morgan Andrews, 2013 All- WPSL-East selections Sarah Brochu and McKenzie Hollenbaugh, as well as last year’s leading scorer Tori Sousa.
Even though the core of the 2013 team that reached the WPSL semifinals is slated to return, Ferrara, Jr. knows the undeniable pressure that a 10-game schedule will bring.
“Every point will be critical and with the abbreviated playoffs,” Ferrara, Jr. said. “The fans can be assured that each game will be intense and hotly contested.”
New England is one of the region’s longest-tenured women’s sides. They will celebrate their 15th anniversary season this year.
