Mutiny Light Up Flash in Finale
- Updated: July 9, 2017
The New England Mutiny may have to wait one more week to find out the fate of its playoff hopes, but this much is certain: they finished up the regular season on a high note.
Marissa Aniolowski’s brace helped power a comprehensive 4-0 victory over the Western New York Flash on Sunday at East Longmeadow High School in East Longmeadow, Mass.
Aniolowski opened the scoring in the 44th minute, then added another in the 49th minute before Kate Howarth struck in the 54th minute. Brenna Brown capped the scoring in the 72nd minute.
The goalkeeping tandem of Gabby Arruda and Annie Ulliac combined for the clean sheet with Arruda stopping each of Western New York’s three shots on goal before the break.
With the win, the Mutiny conclude their regular season campaign on 21 points thanks to a 7-3-0 mark.
New England now awaits the fortunes of the Long Island Rough Riders (5-2-1, 16 points), who’ll play their final two games of the season next weekend. Long Island needs to win both matches in order for them to qualify for the second spot in the 2017 East Final (Tuesday, July 18).
If they don’t, the Mutiny will earn a postseason berth and travel south to face regular season conference champion New Jersey Copa FC (8-1-1, 25 points) for the automatic berth into the UWS National Championship (July 21-22) held in Grandville, MI.
