Boston Breakers midfielder Lianne Sanderson was named NWSL Player of the Week for week 3 after collecting two goals and an assist in a 3-2 win over Sky Blue FC on Sunday.

“Winning this award is an absolute honor,” Sanderson said in a club release. “I want to thank everyone who voted for me. The most important thing is the team and that we got our first win. This is just icing on the cake. I’m absolutely delighted.”

Sanderson, who also won the award last season, is only the fourth repeat winner of the award. Former Breakers’ teammate Sydnew Leroux won it twice last year, while Abby Wambach and Karina LaBlanc have also collected the honor more than once.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.

The English international currently leads the club in goals (4), and has 15 career goals in WPS and NWSL play.
