Red is the new white in New England for at least the next two years.

After years of wearing a white secondary kit, the New England Revolution went with red – and lots of it – for its new secondary look, which was officially unveiled at the House of Blues in Boston on Tuesday.

The new kit, which will be worn during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, features a red top that also contains white and green accents. The shorts and socks are also red. As with all MLS jerseys this season, the secondary shirt also features the new MLS badge on each sleeve.

The Revolution will sport their new, red-heavy ensemble on the road and, possibly, during U.S. Open Cup play.

“I’m definitely surprised, but I love it,” Revolution striker Charlie Davies said about his initial reaction to the change. “I’m very happy with it, most of the guys are very happy with it, so when your team feels good about the jersey, usually, it’s a good sign.”

In addition to Davies, midfielders Lee Nguyen, Kelyn Rowe, Diego Fagundez and center back Andre Farrell all donned the net kits, as did newly-signed striker Juan Agudelo.

The Revolution have not worn a red shirt since 1999, and have not worn red shorts since 1996.

The Revolution traditionally wears its secondary jersey on the road, and during U.S. Open Cup competition. The new kit is expected to debut when the club kicks off the regular season on Mar. 8 at Seattle. And one player who’ll be especially anxious to wear it is none other than Davies.

“I’m in love with the look because that’s my favorite color,” Davies said. “So I think now that we have the best MLS jersey, hopefully, we can also have the best record in MLS this season.”
